When a Tooth Needs To Be Removed

When Is a Tooth Extraction Necessary?

  • Severe infection that has destroyed a significant portion of the tooth and supporting bone structure
  • Serious decay that has damaged a tooth beyond repair, making a successful restoration impossible

The Tooth Extraction Process

  • Numbing the Area: Local anesthesia is used to gently numb the area, ensuring a pain-free procedure.
  • Tooth Removal: The dentist carefully extracts the tooth. For impacted or hard-to-reach teeth, a minor surgical procedure may be necessary.
  • Stitches if Required: Sometimes stitches are placed to support proper healing. They may dissolve on their own or be removed later.
  • Recovery and Aftercare: Clear instructions are provided to manage discomfort and care for your mouth as it heals. Our team is always available to answer questions during recovery.

Caring for Your Mouth After an Extraction

  • First 1–2 Weeks: Mild soreness, swelling, or slight bleeding is normal in the first few days. Resting and following your aftercare instructions will support healing.
  • Complete Healing: Full recovery usually occurs within a few weeks. The gum tissue will close over the extraction site, and any stitches will either dissolve or be removed during a follow-up visit.
  • Support Every Step of the Way: We’ll schedule a check-up to ensure proper healing and answer any questions. Your comfort and recovery are our top priorities.
