Emergency Dental Care Services
Dental emergencies can happen unexpectedly—even outside of normal office hours. Whether it’s sudden pain, an injury, or damage to your teeth, it’s important to know how to respond and when to seek professional help. Some situations need immediate attention, while others may seem minor but still require a dentist’s care. Here’s a quick guide to handling common dental emergencies:
How to Handle Common Dental Emergencies
There are several types of dental cleanings, depending on your oral health needs.
Broken or Cracked Tooth
Gently rinse your mouth with warm salt water and apply a cold compress to reduce pain and swelling. Contact your dentist immediately and, if possible, bring the broken tooth piece in a moist cloth or gauze.
Lost or Loose Tooth
If your tooth is loose or knocked out, try placing it back in the socket while holding it by the crown. Rinse gently if dirty, without scrubbing or removing tissue. If reinsertion isn’t possible, keep it in milk or under your tongue and see a dentist right away.
Severe Tooth Pain
Persistent or sharp toothaches should never be ignored. Pain may indicate an infection or other serious issue. Avoid self-medicating with painkillers and contact your dentist for a proper diagnosis and treatment.
Bitten Lip or Tongue
Gently clean the injured area with a damp cloth and apply a cold compress to help reduce swelling and discomfort. If the bleeding is heavy, persistent, or doesn’t stop after several minutes, contact your dentist or seek emergency dental care immediately.
Suspected Broken Jaw
A broken jaw can cause intense pain, swelling, and difficulty moving your mouth. Apply a cold compress to help reduce discomfort, and seek immediate care from a dentist or emergency medical provider for proper evaluation and treatment.
